Hi all, I am now employed, after a long hiatus caused by a slowdown in the IT field. My new employer is Lee Valley in Vancouver! It's like working in Disneyland for a tool and wood guy. The people who I work with are mostly people who started off as customers, and are either gardeners or woodworkers. So are the clients. While the commute is pretty long (hour and a quarter, and I take the commuter bus for most of that), I get to let someone else drive, and I can pull out some knives and a chunk of wood and carve. I don't get bothered, oddly enough.

Great company to work for, and no, I can not get you discounts; it is hard enough to not just hand back my paycheck for stuff

I am very pleased for you, and a bit jealous. The Victoria Lee Valley store is only a five or six min drive from my house and, conveniently, on my way home from work. I stop in for a browse and to pick up a few things about once a week and I have often thought it would be a great place to work.

Good for you. Finding employment in today's economy is certainly hard enough. Finding a job you can enjoy is wonderful. A good company with a fine reputation in a great location is truly a find. But just a reminder: if you have ever gone through the back doors and been "off stage" at Disneyland you would see that not everything is as it appears. As with everything, always be careful.

Congrats on job!! Being on the sideline was a very frustrating aspect of my career in IT. One has to keep learning the latest fads and hope he is not wasting his time on the current fad. Working at Lee Valley or another provider for WW hobby, I could see that:D
