I have a 1988 Shopsmith over arm pin router with all the parts and pins. It's also a regular router table.

I thought about asking $300 for the unit.
I'm in the greater Cincinnati area if geography will matter for price.


I just bought a Porter Cable 7518 router and it will not fit the table or arm.

I am thinking of switching to the Kreg table and router lift.

Any thoughts?

Last week I completed a major cabinet project and found my OPR invaluable. I would never consider parting with it. I feel much safer when the cutting is done where I can view the work being accomplished. I have both the OPR and a table router. Each has its strengths. Being lazy when it comes to changing set ups, I own five routers each one residing in its appropriate application. Well that is not tottaly true I have a mini and a standard router that I can use separate of tables. Were it me I would maintain a separate router for the OPR. Jim

As Fjimp said the overarm and the pins are what set it apart. Also, I doubt you'll be able to get $300 for it unless the right person comes along. That last one I was going to buy was $70 dollars, but the person sold it before I could get there.
I looked at two others that were going for $100 but both needed a little work.

If I had a OPR, and the room, I'd sure hang on to it.

I have a Kreg table w/o the lift. I haven't had it a long time but I like it a lot. It replaced a Rockler table (what a difference in quality). Because I have a small shop, I've modified the table to be held in a B&D Workmate. When not in use the router table and Workmate reside on the wall.

Mine sets unused for most of the time. It's only used for pattern work. But I wouldn't sell it. When I need it, I REALLY need it.
As Rob and letterk said, I doubt you would get $300 for it.

You make a strong argument for a Radial Arm Saw.

Well I will lower the price down to around $200 and see if I get any interest. I am still on the fence about selling.

I just wish my 7518 would fit the Shopsmith table.

I don't have a 7518 to look at but I'm guessing the issue has to do with not having a set of holes that match the shopsmith insert?

In which case you should be able to make a set of holes to fit?

When I mounted my Hitachi lower router I wanted to be able to pull the router and plate up and out as one piece. I ended up having to remove the routers handles but with that done it works fine. Some times you may have to remove the router from the plate to get it out from below but you should be able to find a way.

For a top router, a lot to chose from and not all that expensive when compaired to a 7518.

In most cases if there is a will there is also a way.
