DUPLICATE PLEASE DELETE THIS POST What are the benefits besides the space savings of making a mini out of a normal length shopsmith? What is the final length the tubes are cut to and why is that length chosen?

There are as many answers to that as there are 'opinions'.

The relevant thing, is what are you going to use it for? If you intend to continue using the table saw, reducing the lengths by 18" is considered the shortest you can go. That requires cutting all 4 tubes.

If however your intention is more like a power station, it can be made shorter. By cutting a pair of tubes(either way or bench) 3/8" off center(making 'halves' that vary in length by 3/4") a 4 tube set is obtained by only cutting two tubes(and only making two cuts).

An even shorter version could be made for pen turning, but not sure I would recommend that.

Der choice is yours!
