This is something I've needed to do since the last time we left the house in the hands of youths:

Looks great. Last year I finally gave some attention to a globe, vintage 1930, that I pciked up in an antique store somewhere. I put it on a floor pedestal that I sprial cut on the lathe and fitted with three Shaker style legs. If you are interested I'll send a picture. I like the vintage globe because of the country names - a lesson in change and how I was able to date it. It is the size of your globe.

Yes, post a picture, sounds like fun! And my wife still refers to her country-of-birth by an "old Globe" type of name.

I made the stand out of oak. I cut the legs on my band saw with a sliding dovetail that fits in the base.
