Shopsmith 230 V 50 Hz Motor

I am considering an international move to New Zealand where the voltage is 230 V 50Hz. My 115 V 60 Hz 1-1/8 hp motor is not going to like it. Can my existing Emerson C55DDR-2015 motor be rewound for 230 V 50Hz? Is a replacement motor available?

230 VAC motors are available but they would be very expensive. Why not an upgrade to the Power Pro. Those systems are dual votage and should not pose a problem. Also very expensive.
However the PP motor would be a lot closer to home, it's made by a New Zealand company.

I have been unable to dig out the start winding wire ends on the Emerson motor that I needed for reversing of this motor. I have not tried just to rewire the Emerson motor for 220 VAC only. It would require finding the ends of the two runs windings and reconnecting them in series with the start winding across only one of the 110 VAC run windings. I found all the Shopsmith motors have two sets of run windings giving them the capability for 110 VAC or 220 VAC input power. They were all connected for 110VAC input power except for a few 220 VAC motors from Shopsmith. I am not aware of any Shopsmith motors developed for 50 HZ but I know the Shopsmith motors will operate on 50 HZ at a slower speed. Contact me off line as I have an Emerson motor that I could look at again to see if this is possible. I may have a 220 VAC 1 1/8 HP available at that time. A really good motor rewind and repair shop might be able to help you as it does not require any rewinding, just reconnecting the internal coil wire leads for the 220 VAC input power.

i am by no means an electrical expert (my day job is hydro/pneumatic instrumentation design) but I have just finished up a couple projects which used 230VAC-1-50Hz power and they were all able to function with a 60Hz feed to the pump motors, only at dimished output, as noted above. I suspect that many electrical motors have that capability but their manufacturers just havent paid to have them certified as such.

Thank you, some good ideas here. The AO Smith motor might work but can it fit into a 1993 Shopsmith? I did get into the motor on my Shopsmith but it appears that I have one wire in the winding (there may be a connection further in but I did not get to it). It is possible for me to use a transformer and feed the motor with 96 volts. The reason that 96 volts is used is to maintain the volts per hertz ratio. However, I would prefer to change out the motor.

I think any mark V motor will bolt into any mark V, regardless of year.

Huh? volts/hertz ratio?
