I think you NEED an official opinion from Shopsmith.judaspre1982 wrote:In March I received 3- G2 sanding belts in 80,100 and 120 grits. I am just now getting around to using them. When inspecting the belts I noticed on the 120 grit, the splice had a 1/16th in gap where the ends come together. The other two grits have nice tight splices/seems.

The pics show the gap in the splice and what the area around the splice looked like after sanding some Purple Heart. There is a build up of dust on either side of the splice and when running stock on the belt there is a" bump in the road " so to speak. ( edge of stock hits the gap)
The belt runs smooth and true when no stock is applied, but the gap has me concerned that the life of the belt will be shortened due to the stock catching the edge of the splice/seem.
Should I be concerned or not? What do you think?

I wonder what Dave would consider to be a problem.judaspre1982 wrote:Spoke to Dave in customer service and he said he doesn't think the gap would be a problem but to send pics to customerservice@shopsmith.com
Sent pics along with a description of my concerns.
Waiting to hear back.

Last I heard, he did not have time for e-mails!judaspre1982 wrote:Dave from SS called me at 4:15 EST and told me he got my email and looked up my thread here on the forum to view my pictures. He said he would show their engineer the pics tomorrow.
I must give Dave and SS kudos for keeping up with their emails and getting back to me in such short order.

It is good to hear that Shopsmith responds to the complaining customer as they do. However, is this a non-compliant item and is it likely that there are more like it. Maybe it should be a "recall". Maybe they (Shopsmith) did that on Facebook and I don't know that. Maybe.judaspre1982 wrote:Got another email this morning from customer service.
Shopsmith is replacing the belt at no charge.
The engineer must not have liked what he saw in the pics.
Thanks Shopsmith customer service.
