SS G2 sandpaper for belt sander

The pics show the gap in the splice and what the area around the splice looked like after sanding some Purple Heart. There is a build up of dust on either side of the splice and when running stock on the belt there is a" bump in the road " so to speak. ( edge of stock hits the gap)
The belt runs smooth and true when no stock is applied, but the gap has me concerned that the life of the belt will be shortened due to the stock catching the edge of the splice/seem.

Should I be concerned or not? What do you think?

Is there any indication of uneven sanding when the belt goes thump?

It is good to hear that Shopsmith responds to the complaining customer as they do. However, is this a non-compliant item and is it likely that there are more like it. Maybe it should be a "recall". Maybe they (Shopsmith) did that on Facebook and I don't know that. Maybe.
