I have a great condition Mark V 500 for sale since I'm waiting for delivery of a new Mark 7 system. Located in upstate NY. Spoke to a rep at Shopsmith who felt confident I could get $1200 for it....sounds a bit high. I'm listing it for $950. Looking for comments / recommendations from other experts.
Thanks.

It looks to be in great shape. Good luck with your quest to sell it. I hope you don't regret that decision. I would convert it to a Shorty and use it primarily as a drill press. You would not even need to convert it; just dedicate it.

It seems apparent that the SS rep does not sell used shopsmiths on craigslist in my area. It is a nice looking machine, but you would be lucky to get one third of your asking price around here. I hope your market is more favorable.

It looks in great shape, but it is still just a M5. Table is to small and what is on the market you can get a lot more machine for much less. I think you will regret purchasing it for more than $600 on the high side. If looks is all you want it is a good deal at that price.
I have a 520, band saw, jointer for sale for $9oo.
Your decision , and good luck.

Thanks for all of the inputs and recommendations. There are only a couple of them on craigslist in this area and they are either beat or are priced higher. I agree with the consensus and intend to lower the price to see if I get any bites. Thanks.

Lots of folks ask all kinds of prices on CraigsList for Shopsmiths in all kinds of conditions...just because they ask it doesn't mean they're going to get it. Your machine looks to be in good condition and there's no harm in asking that price, especially if you have patience to wait for a buyer to come along. If you're looking to clear out the space asap, Asking $500-$600 is more realistic, with a likelihood you'll get offers more in the $250-$400 range. Regional realities certainly play a role, so can't hurt to test the waters but don't be disappointed if you find the SS rep was way overly optimistic. I agree with Dusty and others that you should give some serious consideration to keeping it as a dedicated drill press, lathe, or covert to a shorty to be a dedicated machine to be a sanding station or to run SPTs (bands saw, jointer, belt sander, strip sander, scroll saw etc.) A second machine doesn't take up much space and can go a long way to cutting down on time converting between various configurations. Ultimately, your Mark V is worth much more than you'll likely fetch trying to sell it and if you can find the space, you'll find the second machine option will be worth more than the cash you'll get for it.
