I'm out of town right now but when I get back ill be looking to sell a whole lotta planes. I have a molding plane collection as well as a Stanley 45 with cutters, rust free. No, these are not planes for collectors, they are user planes, with common profiles, and sharp cutters. I'll post a number of pics to this thread once I get back in town but I did want to spark some interest here first. If no takers the whole thing will go on ebay. Probably 20 or more molding planes, with a set of rabbet planes to clean out dados in there too. No price yet but PM me if interested. Price when I post pics.

I may be interested if the prices are right. Especially a 45, does it have all the cutters?

The 45 has a set of cutters. I believe there were larger sets but this one has the wood box etc. I'll get the specs for you guys when I get back tomorrow. At the beach and just go to thinking about my tool collection. Need to trim it back a bit.

Depends on what year or type the '45' was made/is as to what constitutes a complete set of cutters. Stanley gradually increased the numbers from 18 (1883) to 23 (1922). From 1922 to 1962 the plane came with 23 regular cutters. They also made 23 special cutters and a set of hollow and round shoes to be used with some of the special cutters. The shoes came in hollow and round pairs and numbered 6, 8, 10, 12, and a bull nose.

All that said, a complete '45', 1922 and later, includes 23 cutters, two sets of arms (long and short), beading stop, cam rest, depth stop, and instruction book and screw driver. Just an aside, the Stanley No. 45 required approximately 1,800 separate casting, machining and assembly operations. Stanley stopped making the '45' in 1962. They also made an aluminum version from 1915 to 1960 and because fewer were made,they are more valuable.

This is certainly not the complete 45 with every cutter, but, it's served me well. I'm a user not a collector so it works well and makes clean cuts so that's what I needed. THe supertool website has every detail about the stanley line. Some guys at shows are pretty proud of their multi-hundred dollar 45s. Pretty, but in a box on a shelf.

Mine's a user too. Still doesn't hurt to understand what constitutes a "complete" plane. I am a collector, but everything I collect I use.

well, I don't have a 45 (yet ) and an incomplete user in good condition is as good a starting place as any.
