Here are a few pics of a recently (today!) completed gun cabinet.
Materials are Pin Oak and some Red oak, Lexan for the doors and green felt.
Finish is Dark Walnut oil based stain (as per request) and 3 coats of Marine Varnish. A couple of wax (Johnsons) jobs to finish it off.
Made the dentil molding with the I-Box.
It's 78" tall.

This pic is of the method I used to hold in the Lexan. The glass shop couldn't get the metal clips I wanted.

This is the interior of the slanted front. The green felted panel lifts out for access to a hidden compartment.

Beautiful work, Gene. I could never get a finish to look that nice and I like the hidden space idea.

Nice work Gene. Did you have plans or was it your own design?

Very nice work, Gene!:D Where did you find Pin Oak? Did you find it different from the red oak you used?

Thanks everyone. Your compliments are really appreciated.

Bill, The plans were from Popular Mechanics. Son found them online. I definitely do not advise anyone else to use them. At least, do NOT use their measurements.

Charlese, The Pin Oak came from a farm in northern TN. It's not quite as dense as red oak. But it's as hard. A lot of what I brought from TN was streaked with very dark streaks. I really don't think it's spalting. It's quite handsome stuff.
