Although I finished the train table a couple of months ago, I finally got over to the kid's house to take photos in place. Health problems have kept me occupied. The kids decided not to mount the hydraulic hinges and opted instead to use a lock to keep the grandkids from bringing the table down. When closed the trains store on the shelves. When open the shelves act as the side supports and a drop down leg acts as the center support. The unit is screwed into the studs in the wall at two points. The four year old twins love the "murphy train table" and play trains and lego on it all the time. So far they prefer not to use the electricity and prefer just pushing the train around the track. Made from 1/2" Baltic ply it easily handles their weight when the climb into the center.

Wow, Gary! That is a very nice track and train set. Beats the dickens out of the boxed up set I had as a kid. I'm sure the kids will enjoy that set for a long time.

Nice design, efficient use of space. Should help the little ones keep their running stock organized, too.

i like the fold out side legs, i wish i had thought of them when making my son's fold down thomas the train play area. i ended up doing a floding ironing board kinda thing on the back of his closet door. not nearly as refined as this!

And you could always mount a flat panel monitor inside for when they want to play their I-Box
