I was making an online purchase for aquarium supplies and noticed they accepted Paypal. That got me to wondering why Shopsmith doesn't do the same? I figure there has to be some type of rational explanation.

Paypal charges 3% to the seller and, like ebay, is overly partial to buyers when it comes to disputes. it is much more easy to scam someone by buying with PP, but its still the safest way to purchase anything electronically IMO.

I agree, but to add a negative from the seller's POV...the seller can't control the buyer's method of payment. If they used a linked card all is well. If they use a linked bank account, it takes up to 5 days for payment to process via e-check. Keeping online purchases secure?
Sort of off topic, but when I have to make an online purchase, I use my credit card issuer's "virtual account number" program, that lets me create a unique card number for each purchase. It can only be used once, so if it's stolen from the seller's customer database, it does someone no good. A bit more hassle for the purchase but keeps my electronic footprint more secure.

I used the virtual one time number some years ago with Discover. If I recall correctly I found out that the number was not just one time, but specific for that vendor. I don't remember if there was a time limit for use with the vendor but at a later date the number was still good. You might double check with your card provider and Discover may have changed their policy since I tried that.
