drive belt alternatives.

Post by jeeperjohn »

I need a drive belt for a Mark V. Shopsmith has it on back order. they were supposed to get them 'last week", but they didn't and now they have no idea when they will be available. Does anyone have any alternatives that can be used? Surely it isn't a custom belt (or is it)?

drive belt alternatives

I have no experience in this matter; I have always used a Shopsmith drive belt. Actually, I have never changed the belt.

This post (post #21) by another member of the forum may be of help:

Hi, jeeperjohn! Welcome to the Forum!

You have two choices - wait for the SS belt - use the search function of this forum and type in - link belts - . When you do the latter, look for posts by Bill Mayo. He re-builds a lot of Mark V's and uses link belts!

In the meantime, order another belt from SS along with another poly V belt. You may never need to replace either, but you will always have a spare that will literally last for years. I did :) and my two new belts are happily hanging in a cabinet.
