Another good day on the yard sale circuit - I found an estate tool sale...first thing I noticed was a Magna bandsaw on a power station and also a Magna jigsaw that was mounted on a stand similar to the more current SS accessory stand - the bandsaw was already sold and I already have two of the jigsaws, so passed on that stuff. No SHopsmith to be seen, so not sure how he had powered the jigsaw, unless he had swapped it out with the bandsaw on the power station when needed.

I did find an old Craftsman router bit set for $5 - has probably twenty bits in it, of which 90% look unused - I'd guess they are from the 70's or maybe 80s based on the packaging, so definitely older and from the better quality Craftsman era. I also found a Marson Hp-2 riveter kit for $10 that is seemingly new and looks similar to this:



I don't have a riveter and it said Made in the USA, so was pleased with that find. I also got several 3+ ft Jorgensen bar clamps for $5 each. But the most intriguing item was a "Mitutoyo Combination Set" (model 180-905) still in the box and seemingly unused - it looks just like this:


I paid $50 for it - it was an impulse buy as it just looked cool and seems well built and seemingly very accurate...I'm not really even sure how the center head attachment works or if this was a good deal (?) I have lots of squares but no higher end uber accurate ones, so hopefully this fits that bill and I don't have a protractor...not even sure if this set is more geared toward metal working than woodworking? Anyway, I'm a sucker for quality tools, so I sprung for it and hopefully it was a good buy.

Good find, I have had one of these square setups for years and mine is very accurate. I have used the center finder a few times and the adjustable angle a couple of times; but mostly i just use the square. Keep it in one of my apron slots along with my SS tee allen wrench.

The center finder is useful if turning, and the protractor head rarely used, but indispensable when needed.

Great find and buy on the multi square.
I'd love to have just the protractor head and bar. Heck, the bar doesn't even need measurement marks. They are great for setting miter gauges for odd angles. Very accurate.

Wow - I didn't realize they were still sold, much less that they cost that much, so looks like it was a good buy. I like the idea of the 24" bar, although I'm not quite ready to shell out $75 for it. So how does the center finder work?

Notice the "V" center coincides with one edge of the bar. Good place to use a marking device. Move the workpiece(rotate 90°), repeat.

Good score! Mitutoyo items are highly sought after by machinists for their excellent precision. It should serve you very well!

You gotta determine which model you have but some of them are not cheap.

What I find 'surprising' is the "Made in U.S.A." phrase on them. You cannot see that in his pix, but in others from the same source - (link to be included)
