Quill Collars

There are two versions on the quill collar that I am aware of. The original Mark 5/Mark V single bearing quill version and the double bearing quill version. If there are others, please add them to this thread.
The single bearing version is 'almost' 3/4" long. The two bearing version is just over 7/8" long. Only the total hub length varies.
FWIW, the two bearing quill end play is not controlled by the collar. The single bearing quill is. *
In all three pix, the shorter collar is always to the LEFT.
First the length difference pix.

Next the collars mounted to the correct quill. Notice the undercut portion of the collar is the same on either quill. Single bearing quill left, two bearing quill right. Both collars bottom out against the bearing inner race, but only the single bearing end play is controlled by the collar. *

Finally the collars mounted on the wrong quill two bearing quill left, single dearing quill right. Notice the short collar bottoms out on the quill(left) while the longer collar bottoms out on the bearing and does not go into the quill 'normally'.

* I have encountered 'later' single bearing quills with a second retaining ring groove(**) that may help control end play. The collar 'control' becomes relevant only if the bearing inner race slides easily on the quill shaft. My 'samples' may be 'non-typical'(non EOM!). (Clarification needed!!!)
** All quills I have encountered do have a retaining ring securing the bearing in the quill. The collar controls end play only if the shaft easily slides in the inner race. (Clarification done!)
