I'm just one of those guys who looks at the directions last. I just received the Incra I-box from Shopsmith. After fighting to put in the first two screws I decided to watch the Video. Wow, the video shows step by step how to set it up.....I think this will be a nice addition to my toy/tool box.

Don't feel too bad.
Being mechanically challenged, I had a bear of a time, even with the manual open and the DVD playing.
Got it done finally and made some sweet joints and dentil molding.

Which two screws?

I first tried to set the two alan scews into to oblong glides...wrong. Then I had to decide if the SS was left tilt or right tilt...table drops right so must be left...right. Then getting in perspective...the front is the side farthest from you, on the back of the jig as you look at it
But I finally finished, in time to relax with the family. Perhaps today I will try to make some joints.

We gotsa remember when reading instructions not specifically intended for SS aficionados(us) will refer to a tilting blade.

Our SS blades do not tilt.

Our SS tables tilt.

When 'they' refer to a left tilt blade it means to 'us' a right tilt table!

Since 'our' tables do not tilt left when sawing, any tilt right blade instruction cannot apply.

Funky thing is, since there will not likely be any 'tilting' how does it matter?:rolleyes:







It matters because the side the arbor nut is on is what really matters!!!!

Left tilt blade arbor has nut on the right side.

Right tilt blade arbor has nut on the left side.

SS arbor has nut on the right side. Same reason as left tilt blade arbor.

Stack dado blades grow towards the nut.

Der fingers made perfect jig needs to be set up relative to the non-varying arbor seat for the dado blade.

If you are making finger joints or hinges, it doesn't matter which way the table tilts, according to Mark at Incra.

But it makes a difference how you assemble /use it!

Again table 'tilt' is not the relevant thingie. Arbor nuts are.(actually the other end of the arbor.)

As I have often told my children: The initial problem is the nut behind the wheel.
Back to the I-box. The front and back of the center bar are mirror images, and when construction is completed it becomes obvious which way the blade can tilt. It tilts into the nice wide opening. Only when such as I, a perceptually dense individual, attempts to visualize the construction prior to getting it backwards does the problem expose itself. Perhaps rather than a golden finish the jig could have been color coded...red to orange, blue to green. Even better, I should have asked the 4 year old twins to help, they seem to be able to put all types of things together, and they can work the I-pad.
