Self Set Dispoza Blade

I have a Grizzly 6 inch jointer and have had a heck of a time setting the knives after sharpening. Tried the ruler trick, several homemade jigs(magnets/plate glass) and a dial indicator and even after numerous hours I just could not get the hang of it and ended up with less-than-ideal jointer results.

About four months ago, I finally gave in and bought the Self Set Dispoz A Blade. http://www.estausa.com/self-set.html
It consists of (1) a knife holder and (2) disposable/reversible blades. The knife holder has nibs on the back that register against the top of the cutter head and gives a precise set off. The reversible/disposable blades click into place on the holders and are now as easy to set/replace as the knives in my DW735 planer.

I don't know if it would work on the Shopsmith jointer, which I don't own. I recall reading the Shopsmith blades are tapered so maybe not. The company does not even make a stock 4 inch version but the web site indicates custom sizes are available. If you have a non-Shopsmith jointer and have had frustration changing/setting the knives, or just want to spend less time tweaking your jointer and more time using it, give this product a look.

Al,
I would not attempt to use those blades with the SS jointer. SS blades are tapered - narrower at the blade end and wider at the other. I believe that this is a safety feature in the same vein as the taper on the spindle.
