Hi there, new to the forum. I have a Mark V 500 and plan to do dado cuts with it (box joints). I have the incra box jig and a freud 6 inch super dado set. What modification do you guys use to enclose the dado blade in the lower guard? Do you use a spacer or is there a newer guard assembly out there. Not interested in any major upgrades at this time, but a new guard if available might be in the budget...

I am not familiar with the 500 lower guard and assume other members will chime in. However, make sure you are using the correct dado arbor and follow the dado arbor instructions. The dado arbor has spacers of different thicknesses which allow you to properly position the dado blade, depending on how thick your dado set up is. Also, you need a dado insert for the table saw.

Shopsmith had a plan where you took a piece of 3/4 " plywood and traced the outline of the guard then used longer screws to put between guard and the cover. There might be a photo of it in the hardcover textbook too.
