thanks algale, I have a bid on it , I was thinking about the chuck, but its a little more expensive, so I wanted to make sure that I knew what to purchase first. I seen them on SS videos. I will search them on ebay.

Always remember to check with the mothership for accessories and small bits before bidding on ebay. Some things you can get a deal, many wind up being cheaper from main source. Not to mention warranty and support if purchasing new.

Hope you get it! The older cast iron ones are scarcer than the aluminum ones. Regardless of if you continue to use it as a 'faceplate', they have other uses.

It can be done with a faceplate but I find turning those type items easier with a scroll type chuck like this or this. I got many years of service from the basic barracuda chuck like this one. Just remember that you will need to get an adapter for any chuck that will fit the 5/8" spindle on the quill.

The small faceplate is an accessory that you should have in your arsenal. Mine is often mounted on the upper accessory shaft for use as a handwheel when I am turning with a chuck mounted on the spindle.

I keep a scrap/waste block mounted to mine for similar purposes, It can also be used to make a jam chuck.
