I have a 510 without the telescoping legs on the table. My plan is to use some tubes and table supports from a 500 and attach it to a floating table using it like the table on the opposite end. I will have to thread and tap or put in a threaded slug in the casting and bolt the suppports to the table. Has anyone tried this or had any similar ideas. I would ask shopsmith but I am sure they would recommend I purchase the telescoping legs. Any help would be appreciated. Larry

I think I understand what you are interested in doing, I think the nomenclature you have used might need a little update however.

You have a 510, it would normally have two floating tables and one extension table with a base. The telescoping legs are used to support the connection tubes when needed, they twist to adjust the height.

What I think you want to do is make one of the floating tables into an extension table. If that is the case you it can be done and yes it has been done. You will need the base assembly part number 504273 from shopsmith or off ebay or perhaps a kind soul might send you a private email????

While this address a 500 the basics are the same for the 510.

I'm in the process of constructing a dual-purpose table for the 510: 1) a router table supported between the end table and main table; 2) an extension table that will be connected to the main table. As support legs I will use adjustable drapery rods (the big round ones that are in style) and cost $1.00 each at Goodwill. I haven't worked out the details on that yet.

I've been busier than a set of jumper cables at a Mexican picnic the past summer so the router table has been in suspension. I think I posted some pictures here earlier but if you would like them then I will post them again here along with the drapery rods. I plan on completing the project this fall/winter and will post details then.
