I have a 1955 MKV and am looking for a set of wheels/casters.

I have never had any on my machine and have looked at some on EBay.

What do I need to look for in a set so that they will be correct for my machine?

I got some from Lowes that replaced the stock ones

I need the whole assembly including the castors.

I'm not sure those will fit on a 1955 machine - if I'm not mistaken, the ones with the polished aluminum pieces are from newer machines (?) My machines are from late 70's early 80's and they look a bit different…I'm not really sure one way or the other, so hopefully others here can weigh in on if the design has changed over the years and/or if there are any compatability issues with the caster sets. Until then, I'd suggest caution when buying stuff on E-Bay unless you are sure it fits your machine.

Where are you located? Someone may be near you with an extra set.

I will see if I can slide this in at this time. I have listed on Ebay (billstoolz) 3" casters with metal drilling template and drill bit for the Mark V along with 3" casters, metal drilling template and a drill bit for the Power Station and Power Stand which Shopsmith does not offer the 3" upgrade casters. My setup works. Really help ease the movement of the equipment.

I have not seen any differences in the mounting for casters on the Mark V. The legs and casters are interchangeable from 1954 to present. Yes, there are different versions of the Mark V caster assemblies but all fit the Mark V legs. You only need to be aware of this if replacing individual parts in the caster assembly.

There may be some interference when using the earlier Mark V caster assemblies on Power Stations and Power Stands as I find I need about 2" clearance from the lifting wedge to the 3 legged lifting lever. The later Mark V caster assemblies have this clearance now.

Okay - thanks for the clarification Bill…for some reason I had it in my head that they changed things at some point and there might be compatibility issues.

There are three versions(ignoring color variations/green/copper/chrome).

The oldest version has the foot pedal closer to the end.

The two later version\s have the foot pedal inset further from the ends.

The latest has a screw in the end of the camshaft that is visible on the outer surface.

All three will fit any Mark 5 or Mark V as well as 'most' spt stands etc.

The power station requires the later versions as well as added spacers. Same for some power stands.

Bottom line is, if a base/stand was intended to be used with the casters any of the three versions will work with minimal or no modifications.
