Help! What kind of screw is this?

I've all but got my headstock rebuilt. I need 1 screw to finish it up. The screw at the top that holds the Eccentric Bushing in place and screws into the headstock body.

I either misplaced the screw, or it's a pointed pan head screw. All I have left over are some pointed pan head screws. Is this supposed to be one of them, or is it a regular bolt thread? On the parts list (Number 48) it only says pan head screw, and gives no size. Was hoping to get this back together today, but without that screw, it's still not up and running. Any help with the identity of the correct type and size pan head screw would be appreciated.

If you are referring to a pan head self threading screw, the answer is yes.

Be careful to not cross thread it(make sure it goes into the threads correctly).

Bill Mayo recommends a larger flat washer so it helps retain the bearing.

Thanks JPG. That answers the question. I did not want to use one of those self threading screws if it was not the correct thing to use. Now I can get it all back together tomorrow and get her powered up :)
Thanks again JPG.

Doug

I find several different screw sizes and threads have been used over the years for the washer to hold the eccentric bushing and idler shaft bearing. I find it can be either a #8 or #10 sheet metal screw or a 8-32 or 10-32 machine screw. I am sure many of these screws were originally installed by the prior owner. I recommend the 3/4" OD body washer for these screws. I normally convert from the sheet metal screws by tapping a 10-32 machine screw thread into the headstock casing. I do use LocTite to secure this screw.

Thanks Bill :) I may do that. Tapping it out and using a machine screw does sound like a better alternative.
