There have been occasional complaints from members about the resale prices of Shopsmith tools. Well, here's an even more expensive combination tool that apparently hasn't held its resale value: a Robland X31 being offered for $500.http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 60718.html

If you search the interwebs you will find out that it is a very capable machine, table saw with sliding table, mortiser, shaper, and 12 inch planer which converts to a 12 inch jointer. Has 3 separate 3 hp motors.

A good friend on the west coast found one for $2200 (about). Brought his two sons and his SIL to help move it (VERY HEAVY). First "misplaced" it towards one end of the shop (appears to be best suited in the middle). It didn't work as well as be had hoped, but found a site with other users. Found that he needed to do a major maintenance and rehab (replaced one motor and some moving parts of the table) for about $1800. He mentioned that parts are exclusive and expensive. However, when he was done he had a machine worth much more than the purchase and rehab price, or at least it was for him.

For $500, if the motors are in decent shape, it sounds like a fantastic bargain.
