I've been sitting here looking at the new shopsmith catalog, when I come to page 10, wow something new that I might want.

It's too bad that my Dec. funds are already gone. However there is next year so in the next few months I think I'll be ordering one.

Putting the straightness issue aside, I have a hard time seeing what advantage these extensions provide that a home made tall or long fence extension does not provide.

Very poor photograph for a sales catalog.

This is my solution for a taller rip fence.

If you use sliding t nuts on the horizontal piece, you can skip the short vertical on the side of the fence opposite the tall fence.

I'm interested in the purpose for the pieces you have on the back rails (foreground in the shot).

Those were part of a failed outfeed table concept.

Well I see a couple fell for me buying one of those kluge's.

I really wish who ever is coming up with some of this new stuff would ask us members to look at the idea before exposing them.

I can not imagine anyone buying one of these, well OK I know at least one member here who seems to like to buy this stuff.... I'll leave them nameless.

There are so many areas that could use improvements or additions that I can not see why someone devotes time to this sort of thing. My prediction, life time sales of 20 units.

Maybe you should start a new thread and identify a few of the things that could use improvements or additions.

This would be a great idea but don't think for one moment that Shopsmith is going to incorporate any of those ideas. However, the general membership might.

This forum, for years, has been a rich source of ideas (complaints from the users) that could have been incorporated as improvements to the Mark V. I know of only one or two changes that have been incorporated that might have originated on the forum.

BTW, do a search for threads initiated by reible. He has posted literally dozens of well documented ideas for improvements or added features - not just to the Shopsmith but for use in the shop.

How sad! A Company has a devoted following and customer base, giving constructive feedback on making THEIR product BETTER, and they don't listen!

They should be handing out gift cards / credits to us/you for SAVING them $ in not having to fund an R&D department, because we are doing that for them for FREE!

Don't give up. One cannot tell which ideas might catch hold.

The rip fence extension idea, BTW, is not new. I never posted this but something similar was done three or four years ago. The idea came from a question about what to do with parts salvaged from an upgrade.

The answer is easy. Keep them. You never know when you might need them.

I used a 510 rip fence and joined it with a band saw fence (same extrusion) to make a fence for my sliding cross cut table.
