I am thinking about making jewelry boxes for Christmas presents for everybody next year using my bandsaw. Does anybody have plans for making those neat looking boxes where the drawers are cut out of the block of wood in different shapes? I've retired my lathe after making 50 pen and letter opener kits and 90 bowls over the previous 2 years. It's time to move on to something new and one that doesn't generate so much sawdust.

Have you tried "Google". Say maybe "band saw box patterns" or "band saw box plans".

I need some advice on how to create blocks from my wood supply made up of mostly 2 foot long 12" to 15" diameter logs that have been drying since the first of the year. I will be making bandsaw Jewelry Boxes. Or will they even work?

Saw the logs in half and remove the pith.

Depending on width of blank/board desired either plain saw or quarter saw with your band saw.

Sticker stack these and let them continue to dry. The wood in the center of your 12-15 inch log has probably not reached EMC yet. On average figure 1 year of drying time per inch thickness of material (This is an average and is not absolute, temperature and humidity in your storage area as well as wood characteristics control the drying time.)

Cut your blank/boards larger than finished dimension then cut your lumber to final dimension once the wood has reached EMC and you're ready to build a box.

Quarter sawing the wood will give you the most stable wood. Plain sawing can give the best figure.
