Good clip. We live in a republic and our form of government is a representative democracy. If the people who vote for a bill without having read it and they don't know what is in it, then they can not represent anyone.( you have to pass the bill before you can see what's in it) If there is no representation of the people then there is no representative democracy and any and all legislation passed as a result would therefore have to be considered as unconstitutional. Just one old guy's opinion.

It has never been a rule that in order for a law to be constitutional it has to be read by the people who voted for it and I dare say on most bills a majority of the majority of congressman and senators who vote for and against the have not read the bill; a staffer usually briefs the congressperson/senator. Not saying this is an ideal or even good way of running things by it is what it is.

The separation of Church and state and a right to an abortion are not in the Constitution but the judges seemed to have found these and some other "rights" that are not stated in the Constitution.

Liberals? Tea Party maybe!;)

Rand Paul represents liberals? Hardly. The Original Tea Party movement started with him and his dad, before being hijacked by establishment GOP. While not a perfect libertarian, he does represent that wing of the Republicans Party, which is actually more true to real "conservative" beliefs, not the neoconservative, warmongering, big spending party the Republicans have become.

Dusty, me too.

As Gene knows, I'm almost related to the junior Senator from our state. (Jeff Flake's uncle Jake, married my father's youngest sister.) Jake was the ONLY politician I ever trusted. And, even he made mistakes. He would accept baseball tickets from some "lobbyist" and then vote against what they wanted. And, the lobbyists KNEW he was going to vote against them, before the tickets were offered. Jake served 2 terms in the state House, last one as Speaker, then went into the state Senate, until he died.

Jake (and his brothers, including Jeff's dad) have a ranch in Snowflake. That is where I learned, at the young age of 14, what "servicing" meant. (And, the government is STILL "servicing" us)

I think we should adopt the old roman tradition. Politicians have term limits and stand trial for all infractions during office once their term ends.
