I have ordered a double tilt upgrade for my 520 which I recently upgraded to Powerpro status. I have some projects coming up that will be best done with a shaper and I wanted to go under table for a variety of reasons. Anybody with any advice on installing the double-tilt when it arrives, or on use of the Powerpro in the under table shaping mode? I have continuously upgraded and used my Shopsmith for over 20 years but have no experience with either of these configurations. I am interested in any advice, but am specifically wondering how much re-alignment is going to be needed once the install is completed. Can't find a double tilt manual on line.

I bought a Shop Deputy "upgrade" as a result of installing the Double Tilt upgrade and because I have a recently rebuilt Mark V powerhead. Looks pretty straight forward but wanted to check if anybody has any special advice or tricks on putting this thing together.

I don't have a double nor do I have a PowerPro but I do not believe that your upcoming configuration change is going to require realignment. Alignment is relative to the blade whose position is determined by the headstock and the way tubes. The position of those items is not going to change.

Yes, the table is effected by the installation of two new tubes whose position is dependent upon the carriage but I don't expect that to have much effect.

So much for my opinion. I'll be looking forward to hearing of your experience.

I, too, upgraded to the double-tilt and PP at the same time. It is good to do both since the double-tilt can be installed after the power unit has been removed. The instructions with it are all I needed.

When removing the unit (and installing the PP) have a helper or a block & tackle (that is what I used) to save your back or a dropped unit - they are both heavy.

Another post here shows a holder for the removed unit. I assume you plan on keeping it. Be sure to cover it to keep out shop dust. I kept mine since I hope someday to figure out where to put another SS. It would really be nice to have a dedicated place for jointer or planer.

I have used the under table routing function but not yet any shaping. It worked great to rout the legs of a quilt rack to my hand-made template. If you do 'free' routing to a template cut your workpiece very close to the template and install one of the pins in the shaper insert for starting support. Don't try this with short pieces since the shaper insert 'hole' is rather large.
