I took off the sandpaper on my 12" disk sander and the adhesive and plastic from the back of the sandpaper stuck to the metal disk. I've tried everything I can think of to remove this but with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Here's what works best for me, first I warm it up with my sweethearts hair dryer (no one tell her, please!) I get it quite warm. Then, SS sells this rubber 2 x 2 bar for unclogging sandpaper on your disk or belt sander. I forcefully drag that across to get most of it up. Finally, I clean it with naptha. Hope this helps and I anxious to see how other handle this.

I also use that bar (sorry I can't remember what marketing decided to call it) to remove rubber cement from pattern scroll saw patterns.

Has anyone coverted their disk sander to us hook and loop disks? How'd that work out?

I have and it works fine. I did purchase another disk since I sharpen my mower blades on my shopsmith. Shopsmith warned me sharpening steel will melt the hook and loop material.

I never tried sharpening a lawn mower blade on the disk. I'll have to try that when the snow melts next year.

Mower blades is not all I sharpen on my Shopsmith. Let me tell you it works great!!
Only thing is make sure you cover the way tubes, the metal dust that results will rust quickly and pit your way tubes. Also if your using a dust collector be careful where the hot sparks go.

I use both the main table and the aux table using the aux power end of the headstock. I usually put a piece of scrap wood on the either table surface and slowly work the metal until I get the edge I want. I find I most often use the aux table and outboard or aux power end of the Shopsmith. It allows me to make sure disk is turning in the proper direction. Don't want to go against the sharp edge it will catch and peel the sanding disk right off.

You can get sanding disks from Shopsmith recommended for metal. They something other than garnet paper.

After your done sharpening, balance the blade on a screw driver through the blade's bolt hole to make sure it is balanced and reinstall it. Careful the blade will be sharp.
Happy mowing. Where I live I get to mow the lawn year round.

They're aluminum oxide. Item numbers 555205 (100-grit) and 555206 (150-grit). And they're on sale now.
