Help with 520 table

Can someone who has the alignment gages that come with the 520 upgrade kit measure the height the gage from the inside to the lip. I.E. top of table to top of 520 rail.

As already stated, this measurement is not dimensionally critical. What is important is that the rails are "all" consistently the same (with respect to the table surface).

510 table rail alignment gauge

I found I had to make the same type "L" gauge for the 510 tables and rails. Sometimes I had to enlarge the rail screw holes in the tables to accomplish this and I used the nut with the built-in star washer to hold the rails. I had problems with alignment when trying to use a regular lock washer or separate star washer. Thinking back to the time I was doing this, I believe I ended up with a 510 gauge that was about 18" longer than the table with a short "L" leg at each end that only contacted the 27" connecting tube at each end of the table rail, not the rail itself with the connecting tube locked into the rail and the rail screws somewhat tighten. Also, I adjusted the extension and floating table rails whith this gauge clamped to the main table and extending over the extention and/or floating table. I remember it took a lot of adjusting to get all the tables tops level using the 27" connecting tubes.

The PO was not accurate when they made the conversion I.E. way way uneven and thats all tables.

So thanks Dusty for the great pics but what is the height measurement it looks like 13/32?

Yes, there is a measurement of 13/32". This would be the distance down from the plane of the Main Table to the very top of a rail.

Sorry, I should have proofed the final post. I only checked that which is on my computer display. Big difference is readability.

Let me reiterate. That measurement is not critical as long as it is consistent across the "entire" table. The rear edge of the table (the rear rail) is not even that critical. Absolutely nothing is positioned based on the rear rail except the rip fence rear lock.

So, two 'gauges' be sufficient. ;) No need for one at each corner simultaneously.

OK what am I missing?

I do agree that the actual measurement is not critical if they are all the same. That is unless you mix tables assembled with the SS gauge and ones that have a different dimension.

Why do you say the back rail is less critical? The back rail positions tables with connecting tubes just like the front rail. What else does the front rail position that the back rail does not?

Good Point!!! I let that one slip by. :o

The rip fence registers against the front rail. It becomes critical when the fence mount spans the gap between adjacent tables.
