I bought a Shop Deputy "upgrade" as a result of installing the Double Tilt upgrade and because I have a recently rebuilt Mark V powerhead. Looks pretty straight forward but wanted to check if anybody has any special advice or tricks on putting this thing together.

I recommend using longer studs, washers and nuts in place of the bench tube hold down bolts that are in the base and headrest. Install the studs and set the the frame on whatever platform you are mounting it on and mark where the studs are resting before installing the headstock. Drill the platform for the studs, not the base or headrest. That way you do not have to drill any new holes in the base or headrest for the screws that Shopsmith includes with this kit.

The Shop Deputy is a MINI without the bench tubes, legs and castors.

Thanks for the reply Bill. A new lag bolt and washer system is supplied with the upgrade. Are you suggesting using something other that the supplied parts? My dad was 20 years in the Navy too. Flew in the Pacific during WWII. Lucky to get out alive....
