Looking for a light for my band saw and jig saw. As I get older I need more light to see my work. Would like a flexible goose neck with a magnetic and clamp base. Any suggestions?

If you are near an Ikea store, you can try these -http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/. No clamps or magnets, but the base is weighted, and they are inexpensive. The woodturners here just duct tape them to their lathes. We have no Ikea store, so whenever a club member travels, they fill a suitcase with them on their way back.

Thx, it's a possibility.

I have one of the Shopsmith $71 units. Came with the T track bracket. Very good addition! I can mount the light anywhere there is a T track. Also have a mounted bracket on the side of my bandsaw. The T track bracket is also good for light storage when not in use.

This light shade has star shaped heat sinks on the top of the shade, so the metal shade doesn't get hot to the touch. This is a major issue with other lights.

All in all. the 71 bucks is not a bad deal, especially if you buy other units that become a pain to use.

I recently bought a magnetic one from Lee Valley. Not too much experience with it yet but when I did use it on the SS band saw and stand alone scroll saw, it was far superior to the previous one I had. It is battery operated and I don't know yet how long they will last. To use on the band saw, I had epoxied a metal plate to the saw for something to grip to and this one held much tighter than my old model.

I followed the link to Lee Valley, and I see that they sell a lamp similar to the Shopsmith lamp, but for more money. I have three of the Shopsmith lamps, and with the brackets, they are probably more useful.

I'm wondering what good bulbs would be, now that you can't buy 100W incandescents. It seems like compact fluorescents might cause a strobe effect.

Any ideas?

Compact florescent bulbs do not generate the florescent strobe effect...
They are a whole different animal. I've used them for years. In my shop I have both as well as a few of the old incandescent bulbs for color balance.
I like the 150 watt equivalent bulbs which actually draw about 43 watts each.
Mine do have a few seconds of delay until full brightness but I read that they have cracked that now. I even use them in outside lights and I flipped one on last night at 8 below zero. It did take it a little longer but it did come on and did brighten on up. At 8 below zero I warm up slower too.
