I purchased an Incra Miter Express over a year ago to use on the Mark V. Decided not to use it as the tables scared me (to small in my small mind!). Never assembled it. Now that I have the Mark VII, new story. Went to put it together and found that the "expansion mechanisms" in the utility plate bottom out in the miter slot preventing the plate from sitting flat on the table. If I remove them completely it sits flat but has a little to much play. Any suggestions before I call Incra or Shopsmith and show them how stupid I may be?:(

I also meant to add that at their loosest the sled jams up and is hard to push. Without them it glides smoothly.

Nice thread, and it will help, but my question involves the Miter Express Sled. The miter gauge can be used with it...

First question, do you have the "slippery strips" glued to the three panels yet? Mine arrived without them and was not very easy to push. After installation it was like night and day.
I'm not certain, but it may be that the strips have two purposes. One to help the sled slide easier and two, to provide a bit of extra clearance. Don't known that, but without them, there does seem to be extra drag along the miter slot.

Second question, did you install the t slot adapters on either or both ends? They can be a pain and cause problems.

Something to try...

With all four pieces in place, set the sled in the miter slot.
Tighten all four screws so that the sled does not move.
Lossen all four about a half turn to see if the sled moves. It may not move easily, but if it does, then is there slop (side to side) anywhere along the sled?
If it doesn't move, turn each screw one quarter turn until it does. You will be very close.
Check again for side to side slop especially at the ends. You may need to tighten one or more of the screws by one quarter turn (I was actually at one eighth increments when setting up mine)
When it barely slides, you are there.

If you haven't put on the glide strips, do it.

I have Glide-cote on the runner on mine, but waxing at a minimum would be a good thing.

I don't recall seeing any glide strips. May have been lost. Trying to remember where I saw them for sale... I'll try waxing tomorrow...

Please stop calling yer Mark 7 a Mark VII. It is over 50 years too young.

Sorry about that.... for some reason I was thing v120 issues not miter express.

The only thing that comes to mind that might get in the way is the t-slot retainer, that needs to be placed with the rim face up.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe I have the standard (non Shopsmith) model. I'll measure the bar again tomorrow, actually today!
