Double tilt assembly…

While it appears very useful, not having any immediate need, I can’t seem to imagine what advantage there is in double tilt capability.
So, as is my wont, I submit myself to the ministrations of seasoned masters.
What say ye?

In my situation it would have minimum value. I already have a router tbale and a 3 HP router so I already have under the table capability. Someday I may use the "bit above the work" attribute, but not in the immediate future.

I believe that if it was sitting in my shop, I would be able to find all sorts of projects to do on it that cannot be done on my Mark V.
That said, there is no way that I will have that much uncommitted cash any time in the near future. Sometimes I wish I was not retired. Better yet, if only I had anticipated this and laid away that cash before I retired.

GOOD advise for the still working people.

Reading through Dusty’s "Unhappy with Lift Assist" thread I’m beginning to get some idea of at least one way the dual tilt can be useful.

My main (and possibly only use) is to allow the shaper bits to protrude from under the table. To my way of thinking, much safer than over the table shaping. AND the thought of using the shaper only comes because of the PP headstock 10,000 rpm.
I have a separate small Bosch router table for quick jobs but, will modify a 510 or 520 main table to take the square drop in router plates so I can use the larger router with the SS. saving "some" space and allow using the TS/LS fence. (I figure acquiring the table and making the mods will be significantly less expensive than the $345 +sh for the one SS sells)
I have the M7 so it came with it, but honestly if it hadn't, I'm not certain I would buy it.
Be well,
Ben

Without a PP headstock or a reversible motor and table it makes little sense. However it eliminates the tiebar/headrest that contributes to left/right compatibility issues with the extension table(I believe that issue is solvable with the original tie bar etc., but the dual tilt eliminates a complicated set of adjustments).
Not sure how it would help Dusty's lift assist problem though other than providing an easy way to disconnect the tube.

I have one and have been using it this week as a router table without a PP. I really like it.

Did you need the tilt left to do that? If so, how about a pix?:)

The thought is enticing. That's why I picked up the "Old Mark VII". Work way to much OT. So I still haven't put it through its paces yet. Options are an excellent thing to have!
