Help with Lift-Assist

I have a new Power Pro. I disconnected the lift-assist so that I could do some under table routing. Now I want to connect the lift-assist again. When I do, the cylinder won't move keeping the SS in the drill press configuration. I need some ideas about how to get the cylinder working again so that I can lower the SS. Thank you in advance for your help.

I noticed your post and at least let me welcome you to the forum.
Do you have the correct lift for the powerpro? If so did you adjust it so you can use the quick disconnect while in drill press mode? It is a little touchy to get it right but once you have it you have it.
Next I check the other pivot and make sure that looks like everything is in place and the knob is holding things properly.
Another thing to check is to see if the knob that locks the machine in to vertical position is loose enough to not be catching on the hole. If need be take it all the way out and give it another shot at lowering.
I'm also thinking that you have had the machine up and down a few times so you have a feel for the effort required to lower it. If not then you might not be putting enough push to it.
Next step if these ideas fail is to call shopsmith, they may have encountered this before and have a ready answer.

I guess I'm confused.
Is the following correct?
You say you have a PP but I have to presume a Mark 7.
You disconnected the lift assist to use the double tilt for under table routing.
After using the double tilt you want to use the lift assist.
Did you return the headstock /way tubes to horizontal? The lift assist cannot reattach until the system is horizontal.
A picture would help.

Me too!.
Raise to vertical(left) for under table routing(should have included the disconnection of the cylinder while still in horizontal position).
Now how/when did it get in drill press position(raised right).
When was the cylinder reattached(or was it?)?
Is the 'problem' getting the cylinder reattached, or getting the ss lowered to horizontal????????

You may want to rethink disconnecting the cylinder while in the horizontal position.
Might be better to move the headstock all the way to the right, raise to drill press mode and then disconnect the strut.

Please do not mess with the lift assist when in the horizontal position. This is the compressed state and you only want to disconnect when in the decompressed state, that being in drill press mode.
Lets not get anyone hurt here.

My ignorance has been exposed! I was assuminig the post by Benush was accurate(still my own ignorance is to be blamed here).
Your setting me straight also explains the drill press position.(IIUC)
Am I to understand one must raise to drill press vertical to disconnect the assist?
That means lowering it then raising it to the left and then lowering it and raising it to the right to reattach the assist.
????
I did not mean to cause anyone injury.

Nor was I trying to suggest a procedure. I was trying to understand the reason for being in drill press position. I do now!

So now I'm REALLY confused!
Where in the instructions does it say that the cylinder should be in the vertical position when disconnecting it? Installing and testing the fit, yes, but not anywhere else do I read that it needs to be vertical when removing one end?
I've only once removed it to test out the double tilt, but I removed the slip collar (mine doesn't need the small screwdriver to pry it off), raised the headstock in double tilt then returned it and reconnected the cylinder.
If it needs to be in the vertical mode, then would the procedure to use double tilt be
1. Raise the SS to drill press mode
2. Disconnect the rod end of the cylinder
3. Lower from drill press mode (without lift assist)
4. Adjust table and headstock position for router / shaper
5. Lift in to double tilt (router / shaper) and tighten the locking knob
When finished
6.Loosen the locking knob and return headstock to horizontal
7. Reposition headstock and table (or not)
8. Raise into drill press mode (without lift assist)
9. Hook up the cylinder
10. Lower from drill press position with lift assist
Because if that is the procedure, I've bypassed that when reading. Which is entirely possible,
