Installing threaded inserts

For a project, I needed to install a 10-24 threaded insert into the end-grain of 10 'columns.' I first tried by hand with a t-handle installer but that was not going to work.
A better (and cheaper) way was to put two nuts tight together on a long 10-24 screw - head cut off - and a washer to bear against the wood.

The 'columns' were too long for my drill press, but using the SS to both drill the appropriate holes (for end grain I found that a 32nd above the recommended size worked with less chancre of splitting the wood.
Worked out nicely: drill, chamfer, install insert all with the same setup. That put them straight and snug with no fuss.
