Today in my Garage

It's been a little over a year since I started this project and today it (finally) came to and end. After 197 BF of QS Red Oak, 98 BF of Hard Maple, 6 sheets of 3/4" QS Red Oak Plywood, 3 sheets of 3/4" Maple Plywood, 2 sheets of 1/4" Birch plywood, 2 sheets of 1/4" Red Oak plywood, lots of glue, lots of sandpaper, screws, stain, top coat, blood, and lots and lots of cussing, here is the results. All of this was done using my Shopsmith and a Craftsman router.

My biggest lesson learned was that I will never use water based stain again as this was the source of 98% of the cussing mentioned above.

Overall, I am pleased with the results. I don't think I will do a project of this magnitude again though.

Nice, very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice design too!!!!!!!!!!! Do you still have your hair?
Magnitude, just one of those pieces except the mirror frame is a ton of detailed work. Not including the finishing. Spray or hand?

You should be proud. Those pieces will be passed down to family members for years to come, something you will be remembered for long after we both are gone.

I used an Earlex HVLP for the top coats. I can't imagine doing the top coats by hand with all of those nooks and crannies.
