Learned another lesson, and wanted to pass it on.

While I have a Nova G3 chuck I think this idea would apply to people who own just about any chuck.

While changing jaws on my chuck I dropped one of the screws. You know how they always seem to fly off somewhere after hitting the floor...... I had no choice but to search and find it as I have no spare screws. I didn't time it but I bet I wasted about 25 minutes finding it. It had manged to hide under a tool box behind a caster so despite my looking and digging around it took actually moving the tool box to find it.

So today I went searching for a set of spares. I was in the process of making out an order for Rockler so I took a look at their site, and yes they carry them. So rather then looking around and since I already was making an order to them I pick up a set for $4.29. I don't know if that is a good price or not but they were also 15% off using the code V2552.

I did manage to find the screw this time but I don't want to take any chances for the next time or the next time or the next time..... For $3.65 it is cheap insurance against not being able to do a project until you either find the screw or wait for your new screw order to arrive.

That is an excellent price for the spare screws. The online Teknatool offer is a bit more expensive.

I bought these when I bought the chuck but I don't believe I paid that much; at least I hope I did not.

I have a large magnetron magnet that I drag around the shop floor whenever I drop something as you did. It works wonders at retrieving those items that are otherwise so well hidden.

I have the Oneway Talon chuck and when I bought extra jaws they always came with enough screws for the jaws. I have a lot of extras.

While we are talking about the G3 chuck, I just got mine, and there is a mystery part. It is a very tiny red disk, listed on the exploded drawing as a "fiber plug". Just what is this for and how important is it?

I believe it fits under the screw that secures the spindle adapter, so it doesn't mess up the threads on the spindle adapter.

I use a hex wrench with a magnetic tip. Helps both removing (so they don't fall to the hidden parts of the floor) and installing the screws (especially the pen jaws).
I once suggested to Doug Reid that the SS hex wrench should come standard with a magnetized tip. He said it was the first time he had heard that. I guess I'm the only one whomever drops the set screws
