Is it safe to use any solvents to clean the idler shaft, drive shaft and quill? I don't have a bearing puller and an going to leave the bearings in place for now, but I'd still like to clean up the shafts as much as possible. I'm worried that anything used to clean them will get inside the bearings and screw up the grease in the bearings.
Thanks!

A cloth 'moistened' with solvent should be safe. You do not want any solvent running.
