Hi,
If you live in the Chicago land area and can get CH 5 NBC, in the weather segment Brant Miller will be showing one of my fungus photos.
Short notice I know but I just found out myself.

Ed, you had to know THAT was coming.
However, my favourite fungi are;

and Saccharomyces carlsbergensis, the fungi that turn
malt extract, into what B. Franklin said "Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy.
Also, this has been attributed to Ben. "In wine there is truth, in beer there is happiness. In water there is bacteria.
(Both of those quotes may be wrong, but the meaning is the same.) Also, in that time frame, your trusty steed knew the way home.

Actually, a very nice photo of a conk. Probably a conk of Fomes Spp. If you were to split or saw up the log you would probably find the marks of mycelia - a good find for woodworkers who are searching for spalted wood.
The conk is not really a fungus per say, but the fruiting body of the fungus.

Well Charlese you have once again impressed me with your knowledge!
The news anchor thought it look like a wizards hat, which it does, space ship was also mentioned. I personally thought it looked like it could be a ladies dress.

Don't know a thing about that last one, Ed. Sorry!
The only reason I know about Fomes is 5 years in U of Montana in Forestry School. Some kinds of knowledge were pounded into us.
