Chain Hoist

Chain Hoist
When the wife says no more lifting for us, I agreed we elders need to have another way to swap bandsaw and jointer on the mark 5. Northern tools sells a half ton chain hoist for $79 and so a screw eye in the overhead of my garage and the hoist takes off the load on us. Seems a bit of overkill but no more pulled parts of the old bods is the answer.

I would be inclined to attach it to something more substantial than a screw eye.rock wrote:When the wife says no more lifting for us, I agreed we elders need to have another way to swap bandsaw and jointer on the mark 5. In my previous shop I stored the portable Delta planer, on the ceiling, using a swing down platform that would lower the planer onto the table saw top. I used a rope block and tackle to raise and lower the platform.http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_5/191-6701408-2658822?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=block%20and%20tackle&sprefix=block%2Caps%2C2418. As JPW alluded to, I would understand the load capabilities of any hardware used.
I currently use a Northern tool electric hoist to raise and lower my pickup toper.

Probably, I just to not trust direct pull on screws in wood.(especially soft woods).rock wrote:The screw eye is a closed 3/8 shank and should be secure enough for the

That's why I bought a Greenie for $200.00 and made a mini out of it. I put the band saw on one end and belt sander on the other, no more lifting, and they are ready to use anytime.

Instead of a hoist, how about a wheeled cart/stand for the SPTs that is the right height and wheel them over to the SS? Just have to lift/slide it off, and drop it into the holes. Or is that too much "lifting"?
Measure once, cut as many times as needed to get it right! Bob

You talk like either a youngster (still strong and nimble) or someone who doesn't own a Shopsmith jointer.rbursek wrote:Instead of a hoist, how about a wheeled cart/stand for the SPTs that is the right height and wheel them over to the SS? I keep my jointer mounted at one end of the Mark V (so that I don't have to move it). Then I built a Shorty to handle all the other SPT.

I am thankful I have Mark 5 which sees most duty. If I had to manhandle the 510 table on/off often I could likely be able to raise myself by my boot straps. Man is that table heavy(and bulky).
