Box joint project

ImageIt's been awhile since I had a chance to relax with this forum. Things were not well with my wife's health, but everything is definitely getting better. Anyway, one of the grandboys wanted a box for his 78 record collection...grandpa could you make me one? Thus, I took out the Shopsmith Incra Box jig I purchased almost a year ago, and have not used, and gave it a whirl. After a bit of a learning curve...guess I'm a slow learner...I got the hang of the jig. Once you have it down it is by far better than the cheap jigs I have tried without success in the past. Anyway, it was a fun project. I hope to get back to the woodworking, as the family has projects lined up for me.:)

Glad you're back ahead of the curve. Love it when the grandkids want me to make something or want to build something.

Very nice work, Gary! It will hold quite a bunch of records, whether they be 33 1/3, 45 or 78 RPM's. I'm sure the box will be used for years!

I like the box, the craftsmanship that went into building it and the handles that you put on it.

Do you have any idea just how heavy it will be if you fill it with 33 1/3 rpm records?? My guess is that you will be begging for a ruptured hyernia if you try to lift it.

Truly, I have no idea what it will weigh filled. But Alex is 22 years old and a big strong guy, The bottom is inset on all four sides and reinforced on each corner. The handles are bolted on. :D

I don't either. I had records that when stacked on the shelf occupied 42" of shelf space. I off loaded the shelf into three boxes. I could not lift them.

I slid them across the floor into the room where they were being relocated to and put them back on shelves (3). They will reside there for a long, long time. I don't intend to be the next one to move them.

I kept all the Connie Stevens and Hank Williams records out where I can get to them.:)

They weigh about eight ounces each.
