Thought you might find this useful.

Bob, I don't turn so I'm not familiar with the stuff used to stabilize the gnarly wood some pen turners like to use. But, for an epoxy product, I didn't think it was outrageous.
I'll tell some of my friends that turn small stuff about Anchor Seal.

Bob, I think the reason my buddies use thin CA to stabilize is that it soaks in real well and makes the softer spots easier to turn. At $43 a quart, the epoxy would be a lot cheaper than CA. Especially for those that make hundreds of pens, bottle stoppers and etc., for sale. Of course, they use CA as a finish sometimes, too.

Take a look around the Jamestown site. They cater to boat owners and boat builders. I'll bet they have a product you could use on your out door bench.

If you're talking about stabilizing then that is whole different story than sealing end grain.

I've never heard of people using Anchor Seal for stabilizing. By far the best way to stabilize is to use vacuum.

One of these days I'll be hitting up Curtis at TurnTex for some of his cactus juice. Need to rig a vacuum pump first and build a vacuum chamber. Then get a budget toaster oven for the heat activation. His results and penetration into the wood is pretty amazing.

Vacuum pump, chamber and toaster oven just aren't in the budget for a while though. I just have to be patient.
