Looking to replace a damaged pork chop speed control gear. The condition of this one may have had something to do with its being sold. The machine was filthy throughout its innards but had clearly been tampered with at some point.

Found a cracked and bandaged tube tie and the small bars that keep the idler shaft from moving to far to the rear is missing.

I’ve found a period replacement for this.

Searching for the little bar(s) used to keep the sheave shaft from moving too far backward… If you know what I’m talking about … HELLLLLP!

I’ll open up my other later this evening to show what’s missing from this one.

Not unusual damage.

I would try Bill Mayo's 'fix' first(will require some judicious filing and bending).

What headstock version did it come out of? Only the "A" headstock had those 'bars'.

Whatsa 'tube tie'?

Hoookayyyyy, a tie bar.

That is a "B" headstock. It never had those clips. That screw and washer works more gooder!:)

All of these issues have to do with the B headstock (Which I now know thanks to none other than yourself).

I’d thought about "judicious" filing and bending but, not having done anything of the kind on any SS part, I don’t feel especially confident that I’d do it well. But we’ll see. Worst that could happen is I have to get a replacement anyway.

I’d thought about using that liquid metal thing I’ve seen discussed in this forum, but I kinda feel the level of damage here cries for a total replacement part. Not a mere chip, but broken in two.

I’m also studying a stop on one of the way tubes. I guess the guy decided to put that on AFTER … no wait! That would be the other way.

Hmph! I guess he must’ve just let the whole thing slam into the horizontal position. Thereby shattering the tie.

Craziness… but a good learnin’ experience for me.

Replacement is in order. They are on e-bay almost all the time. Any version(color) will work.
