I get an e-mail from my nephew, (who I taught to use a model 10, MANY years ago. He had to stand on a box to use the lathe.)

He is now driving, restoring an old Dodge Ramcharger, and doing all kinds of high-school stuff. I call him back, and he, (and another nephew) are cleaning out a widow's (or her late husband's) garage. She tells them, there is a welder in there, and some other tools. If you what them, you can have them.

The welder was a Lincoln MIG unit! Had everything but the tank and the helmet. Did have a hand-held face shield, though. He looked up the welder, and it cost $1100.00 new. About $300 of other assorted goodies.

I told him, "you are NOT charging that woman!" He said, if he gets any money from her, it will go to my other nephew.

Nice to see the new generation taking over!

But!

It was MY birthday today,(the 4th) how come HE gets the welder?:D
(Couldn't have happened to a nicer kid, though!)

Happy Birthday...

Got a phone call from him and his dad today, "how do we get this fuel pump to stay in? The arm won't let it sit in the hole."

"Guys, that arm is spring loaded, just push it in against the spring, and tighten up the bolts."

Called them back 5 minutes later, and it was installed correctly.

They are in Las Vegas, and I'm in Mesa. We're having a family reunion at the end of the month in Idaho. I'll be leaving here a few days earlier, taking the bus to Vegas, spending some time, finishing up the Ramcharger, and teaching my nephew (and his dad) how to run a MIG welder. (Once I figure it out.) (The thought of spending some time at the Phoenix Greyhound station bothers me, though. Latest is, 120 thousand un-accompanied "immigrant" CHILDREN are due to be sent here, because of what "1060" caused a few years ago. Political payback is a B***H!)

(Sorry to get political. I'm wondering if the VA issue is coming from the same source. After all, John McCain DID run against King Barry the First.)

JPG, you're 100% right! You never know what those widowed women have in the garage. (And, sometimes, they don't either!)

It also pays to be a good kid, and this nephew is.

Train isn't an option out here, and I just don't like the proctological exams the TSA has imposed on air travel these days, along with other airline related reasons.
