Has anyone been able to turn stock longer than the bed? I have some 1" doweling that is 4' long that I need to turn in a few places - to make a Sailor Pluto Time Key Staff for my daughter...

Probably easiest to cut cut the dowel where the joint could be hidden and turn the two pieces separately, but you could do something like this.

It has been done with combining two Shopsmith beds together or replacing the center with another fixed center.

Here is an extreme example.
