Donald Sterling is being forced out because he made a private comment about another race. Washington Redskins lose their Trademark because of protests that it is racist. Cleveland Indians are sued for $2b by a Native American, because he is offended by the name INDIANS and logo. He won’t sue the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) or complain about that shameful name.

Next Disney will be sued by the millions of rats (represented by an enterprising attorney or the NAACP (well maybe not because almost all lab rats are WHITE however the NAACP is well known for defending rats) or the ACLU who will represent any group that will bring money to their efforts and complain that Disney has depicted mice (Mickey and Minnie) as comic characters and demeaned them. There is a precedent for this suit. Disney's movie Song of the South, about Peter Rabbit is no longer extant (banned because it is offensive to blacks because of a Tar Baby created to catch that rascally rabbit). How is it that something made of tar; e.g., roof adhesive, road covering, etc. is construed to be offensive, unless you drive over it on the road?

And Speedy Gonzales is no longer available because La Raza and other Hispanic reactionaries deemed it was offensive although Hispanic children thought it was hilarious. Speedy Gonzales, after all, was a heroic, rat in the best Hispanic tradition. They may have believed it was his panic tradition. There is probably a suit awaiting Warner Brothers in depicting Willie Coyote (Coyote is the name for smugglers of immigrants into the US) as a schemer who's schemes always go awry. We can't have a Coyote who is not successful! Lawsuit!

Perhaps the Washington Redskins should just change their name to the “skins” – red excluded but black permitted. That would be a better reflection on today’s team makeup and perhaps send a message to all. Or change it to the R-Skins (who can be offended by that?) Obviously all the Ns , Is, NAs, PCs, As, Ws, Ys, Qs, NAGs or other groups who looking to be offended. I might also include NAZIs, who were prominent in previous decades; but you can figure out what each set of initials represents.

Get a control of yourself and your own life before you start trying to control someone else’s. Do you see a pattern in wanting to control what other people think and can say? Does Fascism ring a bell?

Fascism - a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government. What about Pavlov? What about Quasimodo in Victor Hugo’s novel? He rang a bell and was tortured for it. No? Still don't get it? Try Hitler, Stalin, Obama. Is the bell ringing? Does the word Fascism ring a bell?

Who knows for whom the bell tolls? It tolls for thee.

Praise you brother. Couldn't have said it better. Speaking of Song of the South, I am lucky to have a Japaneese Laser Disk copy with an alternate American language. Flat out one of the best movies ever made period. Thanks for the post.

I'm in favor of the above mentioned change.

You all know the definition of PC, don't you?
The irrational belief, that it is possible to pick
up a "dropping" (think doggie loggie) by the clean
end.

I would be upset with your post.
Because a word or phrase once deemed unobjectionable is now,is not Nazism, but a due recognition that our country's people are from many ethnic, religious and racial backgrounds.

I have followed this forum for a few years. The ShopSmith information is quite good. However, the diatribe against other Americans is foolish. There are other forums available to proclaim one's political views.

Shopsmith owners are not all white Americans.

If I were less jaded

I am old fogey enough to recall from personal exposure the shifting of perception as to what one should be upset about.

The world is about all of us, not just one's self.

Yes we are a melting pot, and that leads to our strength. It is only when self interest and perceptions of 'us' and 'them' get into our minds that we break down into squabbling factions.(think sunni and shiite)

I do blame the PC advocates for fomenting separation. It is an insidious attitude which destroys that which it purports to promote. Before one can become Politically Correct one must make distinctions so as to not alienate those in different 'groups'.

A better way is to not make those distinctions in the first place.

WE the people is ALL of US and THEM.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So is the opposite.

No matter how we try every one will be in different categories, the trick is to only consider those categories when they are relevant, and not derogatory.

Then you would be objective and non prejudgmental.

I can recall when 'the news' was simply the reporting of events with no hidden agenda nor insinuations. I miss that!

Being born in the south, but raised in the north by midwestern 'yankee' parents I was exposed to the tar baby and Little black Sambo and Aunt Jemima etc. etc..

Jemima was to me the caretaker of us children when in Arkansas. I always was reminded of her when I saw the pancake mix boxes. Not once until I relocated did race enter my perception.

The tar baby was to me merely a piece of bait for the IIRC fox.

Little Black Sambo was to me someone from a different part of the world. India came to mind as that is where tigers were then. Then there is that pancake connection again.

It was only after relocating south of the Ohio river that 'race' became a distinguishing factor in my mind. I was better off with it absent.

With this broader experience than most(5 different high schools alone) I believe I am more tolerant of much that folks get there clothing in a wad over.

It is not the mere words that express ugliness, but the context and intent of those who use them for that purpose and worse.

To be called a 'brave' was a badge of honor amongst tribes. I consider it to still be so.

So call a spade a spade, just do not use it as a weapon.

Please identify whose post upsets you so. It is hard to make amends without knowing who was offended.

BTW, welcome to the forum. It is always good to know we have another new member (especially one who has been lurking all these years).
