Hello anyone in Middle or South Jersey or the Philadelphia area:

I am unable to change the:

Glimer (cogged) belt (Available Part # 507032) in my 1956 Mark V.

I tried and failed - twice. The unit is otherwise in good working condition.

Is there anyone out there who has done it, can help me do it, or best, can do it for me. Belt and instructions on hand but I can't get to first base.

It may possible to get the unit to you and I am happy to reward you in the traditional fashion. However the reward will be very generous if you can come to me in Cape May, NJ and succeed.

I just now read your plea and though I am not able to assist, I'll bet that you will be contacted here by someone who can. I do not have a unit with the gilmer so I am going to defer to someone else. I do, however, know that this is not a formidable task.

Can you be specific as to what sort of problem(s) you have experienced during your previous attempts. Knowing this will help.

Like Dusty, I have never had a Gilmer belt, but here is a PDF from Shopsmith showing replacement parts, that might help in figuring out what must be removed to replace the belt. http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/prod ... lement.pdf

Which shaft are you experiencing difficulty removing? I assume removal is at this point your stumbling block. The drive shaft bearings and pulley can be stubborn to remove.

As mentioned already, we need more details. Pictures are very helpful to us. Sometimes we see where the wrong method is being used!

More than likely, the stuff is being stubborn to remove. A good penetrating oil will help. WD-40 is not penetrating oil!

The retaining ring 'notch' can be nigh impossible to see if crud is obscuring it.

That did not take you where I wanted. Click on the very top item - Mark V STD Parts List. Particular attention to reference numbers 54-66.
