I recently bought a used Shopsmith 510. Looking at the serial number 009907 it was make in late Feb of 1987. It had not been used in many years. as soon as i started it up the sheeves were stuck and i broke the reaining loop and chewed up the quadrant assembly. I have the parts on order now to fix it but my question is is where is a good place to look for the floating tabels and lathe tail stock as a lot of the pieces were missing from the one i bought but i think i got a good deal on it i spent $175.00 for the machine.

I'd suggest you buy your missing parts directly from Shopsmith, if you can. Yes, they'll be more expensive than used parts, but (1) they'll be ready to use as received (no cleaning off rust, etc.), (2) no wasted time searching for them in the first place, and (3) you'll be supporting an American company (who provides this great forum, educational materials such as the Sawdust Sessions, etc., all free of charge).

Think about it- if all Shopsmith owners bought all of their spare parts used, Shopsmith itself wouldn't be around very long. OK, I'll get off the soapbox now- sorry!

If you know the pricing on the parts you are looking for you will find quite a few on E Bay. Sometimes you can stumble across a good deal. I said sometimes. good luck with you repairs

I'm with you Gary,

As long as there is an (American) ShopSmith company, I will be spending my money there. I do not even look at e-bay, etc. If there comes a time when no one can buy from ShopSmith, I will have to rely on e-bay and others like it.

Like Chip said know your prices, it is not uncommon for things to sell on ebay for more then you can get the new item from shopsmith. Make sure you use the total cost, that includes shipping.

Right now shopsmith has some sales on so make sure you check them out... and a price increase is happen in April so if you can now is a good time to buy those parts.

I'm more inclined to pick up SPT's from ebay, but really anything else I'd get them straight from SS.

I need to talk SWMBO into the 520 upgrade, the bandsaw table/fence upgrade, and a few other bonus little items, maybe that's where we can put our stimulus money...
