I had subscribed to the yahoo, ssusers list. Today Dr. D's arrogance and coarse indifference to the sensibilities of others drove me to "unsubscribe." Does this man have any administrative authority here?

I have met some great people here and we share and even go to some effort to assist each other and the Company. If, however, Dr. D. has a say in this forum I will have to resign- it will hurt- but I have standards for the social treatment of others. He, unfortunately has none.

Please reassure me that he does not have official control of any aspect of this group. J. E. Mike Tobey, III( J.D.- I just don't cram it down peoples' throats)

I've never been to the yahoo ss users site but I've never seen anyone act like this Dr. D fella. on this site.
I can't imagine the administration tolerating it since this is a part of Shopsmith and not something a user decided to start up.

Way back when the yahoo site was the only game in town...... they have nothing to do with this site or the ssug.org site. A former site ran into some problems with copyright issue so a fractional split occured... but that is another story.

He is also a member here and has posted here. He runs a tight ship and for some it is tooooo much. It is HIS ship so he can do as he likes. He feels if he controls things it is better for that group. I can't say I love it but then when you throw out the bath water with the baby you end up missing out on some good things.

I think he is doing the best he can and I put up with some posts not getting posted and comments he makes that as you know are less then wonderful. I also know a few things that I'm not at liberty to say that make me more tolerant.

I guess that is about all I can say.

Maybe I'm niave, but I've never run askance of this "Dr. D". I have left some other forums in the past because some of the guys were literally "at each other's throat". the only other woodworking forum that I participate in is Lumberjocks. I don't have the level of comfort there that I do on the this forum, but there are some Shopsmith guys there.

The Shopsmith forum however, is much more like a community. We disagree on some issues occasionally but it never gets nasty and personal.

It appears that the "people in charge" on this site are pretty limited. Like, to that ellusive "admin" fellow and that's it. There appears to be a few moderators, but I don't know as if they actually frequent the board. But from the way things appear, there doesn't need to be any real moderation.

I've always been a huge fan of the way that forums present the information that is contained within, as compared to the way that mail lists archives are organized.

It looks as though to date, he has only posted 5 times here.

I dropped off of his site also. He gave me a 'tongue lashing' once for no good reason, so I left. I think he is one of the 'creators' of some online woodworking web site. I did a search for it and found nothing so maybe it no longer exists. Unlike the Sawdust Sessions, it is/was a subscription only site. I've never viewed any of his stuff.

If you find someone offensive, you can go to their profile and click on the ignore button. I now have two on this list. While this is one of the most civil forums around, there will always a few characters who take advantage of the relative anonymity and show off their anti-social tendencies.

If more of us would put these very few individuals on "ignore", their postings would virtually be lost in cyberspace.

Well now I know why *iowa never answers any of my questions directed at him.

Seriously I think this forum is a hundred times better than the other two Shopsmith forums, frankly I rarely ever visit the otherse and I almost never post there. I do not like the lay out of Yahoo users groups and I refuse to fill up my email with forum posts.

I love the layout of this forum, and the ease of use. I also think the posters here are some of the best people you can find. I have never asked for help on this forum that I haven't gotten it and you guys have been wonderful in helping me.

I have never been made to feel inferior or had anyone launch a personal attack while on this forum but I have seen it happen many times on the other forums.

And last but not least we have Nick, Drew and the mysterious Admin that always rush in and straighten us out when have a question about what is going on in Shopsmith. That to me is worth much more than the other two forums offer and therefore makes this forum head and shoulders above the others.

My advice if you want to enjoy life stay away from toxic waste dumps.
