Lathe part missing?

I am the owner of a used 500. I had a rough go with the stock lathe points so I ordered a One Way Stronghold chuck from SS. It arrived and, while trying to figure out how to attach it, I realized that there has to be a flange that this bolts to in order to connect it to the headstock. Is this a valid assumption? If so, where can I find one because I have been through everything I got and there is nothing like that in the parts box.
THANKS
Pete

Virtually all lathe chucks need an adapter to fit vitually any lathe, if you got the chuck from Shopsmith it should have come with the adapter in the box or attached. If you purchase chucks anywhere else the adapters are usually sold for around $25-$30.

If you contact Oneway they will sell you the proper arbor to mount your chuck. Just tell them you have a SS.

If you ordered from shopsmith it should have come with the part you need. Give them a call and they can get you fixed up.

You will need a simple spindle adapter. I got mine here a few years ago. Converts the SS round spindle to a 1"X8. Then you can moiunt about any chuck. Many sizes avaliable. Cost me $16 + shipping.Bill

Hi All,
Not to sound to harsh about the last posting, but you don't need a spindle adapter for the SS arbor that changes it to a 1" x 8 thread to use the Oneway chucks. Oneway makes adapters that fit the Shopsmith that attaches directly to the chuck. If you get a 1"x 8 thread adapter that attaches to the SS, then you will have to get a 1" x 8 thread chuck adapter. In other words, you will be using two adapters which is not necessary, and could be a safety problem also. A lot of stress is put on these chucks while turning wood.
Your chuck should have came with the correct adapter, and most likely, already attached to the chuck. Mine was when I purchased it years ago.
