First off, thanks to all of you that offered your gracious help on this noob's dilemma!:D

I turned the sanding wheel while turning the speed dial and the belt tightened right up! I fired her up and she was singing her pretty motor song!!! One thing though, when cranking up the speed to it's highest setting, it didn't really get there. It won't go any faster than magna dado on the dial... well it's actually between magna dado and saw. Any ideas on this deal? I'm really happy that it's working and I didn't break anything as any kid with a new toy is bound to break something.

The 'dial' may be mis 'calibrated'.

Do A 'high speed adjustment'.

That may reveal why it is mis-calibrated(stripped gear on the knob?).

Missing a few 'details' like knob removal and replacing(there is a 3/32" set screw and a depression in the shaft for it to bottom out in).

This is really good news BUT you are not done yet. You have eliminated (for the moment) the symptoms but you have done nothing to treat the cause.

Lubricate the sheaves.

The first few minutes of the video linked by JPG might be good for you to watch as well. It may help you to better understand what you just recovered from. He doesn't speak directly to a "stuck Sheave" but the two videos talk all around that subject.

At any rate, congratulations on your recovery. You'll be making sawdust soon and then you can start concerning yourself with alignment. As a word of caution, don't cut a whole lot of wood until you have completed a table alignment. You do not want to start your Shopsmith experience with an incident that occurs due to misalignment of the table.

Dusty, thank you as well! As an aircraft mechanic, I know that proper maintenance is key to anything mechanical! Great suggestions as usual!:)

The poor pilots and passengers thank cant fly without a computer after a mechanical misfunction!!!

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimbal in the wabe!

I was not putting blame on the mechanics!!!! Just that the FFA sez after take off and before landing, you are on the flight computer, sit back, relax, snooze, and maybe there might be a flight/pilot attendant under 35, not gay, female, to relax you!!
